New RADs for Rane Mongoose

Rane introduces 10 new RADs and a new version of Tracker software for their Mongoose system. These new RADs augment the 4 models which were introduced with the Mongoose router at the beginning of the year and provide additional I/O capabilities. RADs convert audio to and from analog to AES3 digital audio and allow for up 2 inputs and 2 outputs to be transmitted to the Mongoose using CAT 5 cable.

The Mongoose allows audio to be routed from RAD to RAD and to and from CobraNet bundles. The Mongoose can aggregate multiple RADS to a single CobraNet bundle allow for more efficient utilization of CobraNet than would otherwise be possible.

All RADs (except the RAD 16) are available in white, ivory and black. White models are shown below. Complete details for Mongoose and the RADs may be found at www.rane.com/mongoose

Rane Environmental Efforts

As a U.S. Company in the Pacific Northwest Rane is keenly aware of the importance of our environment, from its beginning in 1981 Rane operated with an environmental conscience as a natural order of business: it is simply the most efficient and effective way to run a company.

Electronic manufacturing done the Rane way is inherently an environmentally responsible venture, emitting nothing foreign into the surrounding air or water supply systems.

Here is a list of Rane’s many environmentally friendly efforts:

  • Manufacturing is a totally lead-free process; all components are lead-free complying with the European RoHS (Reduction of Hazardous Substances) rules, which are slowly being adopted in the U.S.
  • Rane designs and builds products that are "built to last and last."  Rane’s use of software upgrades, making old products new again, minimizes notions of "disposable."
  • Extensive use of in-house Print-On-Demand resources allows us to print the exact number needed with no waste caused by obsolete or unused paperwork.
  • All manuals and reference materials are available online so customers don't have to order paper-based information.
  • Packaging materials are made from recycled materials where possible.
  • Only use foam liners where we must and recycle all incoming foam.
  • Entire manufacturing and office facilities recently converted to on-demand energy efficient lighting.
  • Office furniture bought used from craigslist. Most upper management desks are over 20 years old with no plans to replace them.
  • Company vehicle (the “Ranemobile”) is all electric.
  • Reduce and reuse extensively. Rane buys as little new as possible and then uses and reuses everything. When done using and reusing, Rane gives away to employees for their use and reuse at home. The many “Great Rane Giveaways” are very popular with our employees.
  • Recycle all office paper, junk mail, cardboard, glass and aluminum cans,
  • Buy locally when possible, supporting local vendors and reducing transportation emissions.
  • Factory is located where employees have very short commutes. Many ride the bus or bicycle to work.
  • All grounds landscaping maintenance refuse is composted.
  • Overall Rane strives to be an example for all manufacturers following the wisdom of “reduce, reuse, recycle.”

New Advanced SL 3 Interface Introduced for Serato Scratch Live

Rane is proud to introduce a new audio interface for Serato Scratch Live. The new Rane SL 3 is being unveiled at the Musikmesse show in Frankfurt this week and is sure to turn heads in the music world once again.

Five years ago, the Rane SL 1 became what is now a modern classic, setting the stage for the future of digital DJing. Like the SL 1, the SL 3 is one tough piece of hardware, built with premium components. Both feature galvanic isolation to prevent computer noise interfering with the audio path. The Rane SL 3 ships with a soft carry case and an international power supply for easy transfers between DJs.

“Our professional customers want a bigger sound from a smaller box with simpler connections, so that’s exactly what we’ve made” reports Steve Macatee from Rane Corporation.” The SL 3 is about minimizing noise and maximizing audio performance”.

The SL 3 design concentrates on optimizing sound quality and producing a rugged and compact solution.

The Rane SL 3 is an advanced bus-powered 24-bit USB 2.0 audio interface for Serato Scratch Live. Like all Rane products, the SL 3 is handcrafted in the USA under strict quality control to insure long-term reliability and performance.

At a time when most companies are cutting corners, the SL 3 is a premium product designed with the discerning performer in mind.

“If you play on quality sound systems, make your own music creations, like to remix live or use uncompressed audio, then your crowd will really appreciate the advantage the SL 3 gives you,” says Sam Gribben from Serato, “It’s the biggest way yet to DJ with Scratch Live, it’s an absolute monster of a box!”

The Rane SL 3 has a massive 104 dB dynamic range, allowing plenty of space to mix between vinyl, CDs and Scratch Live with headroom to spare.

The studio grade input preamps are the same as those found in the Rane TTM 57SL performance mixer. Each channel is individually switchable, allowing for a mix of turntables and CD players. The compact design eliminates the need for extra cables, making for a quick and easy set up.

Armed with an extra set of auxiliary channels, the SL 3 opens the doors to future expansion and creative configuration for DJs and electronic musicians.

The Rane SL 1 for Serato Scratch Live continues to be available as the industry standard for digital DJs.

The Rane SL 3 for Serato Scratch Live is shipping now.
